Special Corporate & Individual Activities
Stork’s Nest Baby Shower
The Stork’s Nest is an educational incentive that serves 600 low-income pregnant and parenting women in Polk County every year. About 53% of mothers who participate in Stork’s Nest speak a primary language other than English. The program offers services and bilingual parenting classes in over 20 languages and helps participants to access community resources for assistance.
Mothers who participate in the Stork’s Nest earn points for making healthy, proactive choices for their baby, such as quitting smoking, taking parenting classes and attending prenatal and well-child doctor’s appointments. In exchange, mothers redeem the points they earn for needed baby items such as diapers, cribs and car seats.
For more information on how to host your own baby shower to support the Stork’s Nest, please email Sara Madison at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (515) 558-9950.
Corporate Volunteer Activities
Volunteer groups are always welcome to help Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa. All groups have different ideas about how they can help the clients we serve or assist our staff. We cannot always guarantee that group opportunities will be available; however, we strongly encourage you to contact us with ideas or inquiries.
Example: Several volunteers at Athene Annuity and Life Company assembled and donated welcome bags for the Visiting Nurse Services of Iowa Maternal Child Health programs. Some of the items included in the bags were diapers, wipes, baby wash, and a rattle.
